Two of the substances responsible for the healing properties of Chaga are Betulin and beta-D-glucans (polysaccharides). They strengthen the human immune system and stimulate the fight against cancer cells. It contains magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese, copper. There are also triterpenes, which help lower cholesterol, improve blood circulation, detoxify the liver, successfully deal with gastritis, hepatitis, ulcers, asthma, cough, and tuberculosis. Chaga can be used in cases such as hypertension, diabetes, psoriasis, eczema and wounds, burns, frostbite, acne, inflammation, flaking of the skin, insect bites.
Today, there is also research to support the claim about the medicinal uses of the fungus. One of the new and final analytical studies of Chaga was conducted by Dr. Kirsti Kahlos, a specialist in pharmacognosy at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Of course, additional controlled human studies are still needed, but in the laboratory, various components of Chaga have been active in reducing the growth of certain types of cancer cells, maintaining the immune response and antiviral properties.
